The following are the characteristics of an effective marketing business card.
- Outstanding design and presentation – see to it that your card does not blend in with all the rest. It should look great and professional, and should clearly define the service/product of your business.
- Good paper and print quality – a poor quality which blotch with a drop of water will imply poor product/service. So see to it that your card is made of quality materials lasting for a long time.
- Unique selling proposition (USP) – to completely utilise the marketing value of your card, include your selling proposition on it.
- Use the standard size (3.5×2 in) – oversized cards do not fit into a pocket, so they usually end up in a drawer or a trash bin.
- Right font size – just because you want to advertise you business, does not mean you have use small prints to cram-up a lot of information. If customers cannot read your card, then it is useless. If possible, avoid putting a lot of text on your card; they could be boring and very unattractive.
- Attractive but not destructive colour – use a colour that does interfere or disrupt the text. As much as possible, avoid combining dark colours, and limit your colour scheme into three.
